Opera In Concert
Anna Netrebko - Rolando Villazón - Elïna Garanca
Tschaikovsky: IOLANTA
The perfect couple returns to the stage: Anna Netrebko und Rolando Villazón will perform in Tchaikovsky’s Iolanta.
The Russian diva will give new meaning to the role of Iolanta, the beautiful, blind daughter of the King, who regains her sight through the healing powers of a Moorish doctor, and her love of Count Vaudemont, portrayed by Villazón.
This affectingly fairy-tale is one of the latest compositions by Peter Tschaikovsky and one out of a multitude of performances by Anna Netrebko und Rolando Villazón. Verdis »La Traviata« and Puccinis Opera »La Bohème« have been memorable performances by them.
Massenet: WERTHER
Rolando Villazón is renowned for singing the title role of Werther in Jules Massenet’s opera, and the Mexican tenor made a dazzling comeback with this work at the Vienna State Opera in January 2008 following a vocal crisis.
The young Werther falls passionately in love with Charlotte performed by Elïna Garanca who is engaged to Albert. Werther is lost inside the suction of his rapturous passion for Charlotte, where his only way out ends in a suicide.
Jules Massenets Opera from 1892 is based on Goethe’s best-selling The Sorrows of Young Werther. Massenet’s emotion-filled melodies, touching solos, and gorgeous orchestral textures combine to create a deeply satisfying musical experience.
