With more than 40 million records sold, Peter Maffay has been one of the most successful rock musicians in Germany. In the last four decades 15 albums reached a No.1 ranking in the local charts. Over the last decades his tours have been visited by up to 700,000 fans each tour.
Peter Maffay’s popularity spread across international waters as a result of his collaborations with famous artists from all over the world, on his concept tours and albums like "Begegnungen".
He has received several awards, such as two Bambis, ECHOs, the World Vision Award and the "Verdienstorden der Bundesrepublik Deutschland" honoring his achievements in and commitment to the Music Industry, as well as Charitable causes.
In 2008 Maffay and his band released the new Album "Ewig", which matches the nivue of former masterpieces like "Tabaluga", "Begegnungen I+II" or "Laut und Leise". It is a typical Maffay solo record, full of his personality and personal lyrics.
In Spring 2009 the German rock legend went on a unique tour, visiting over 50 cities in Germany and Switzerland. For the first time, Peter Maffay performed open air and in Opera houses. Tickets for the tour sold out immediately. Even the additional concerts scheduled could barely meet the demand of the fans.
In 2010/11, because the rocker never seems to tire and always has new ideas, Maffay returned to Germany’s biggest stages for his new tour “Tattoos” with his band and a Philharmonic Orchestra. The tour reflected his incredible 40 years in the music business including some new interpretations of his classic hits. Like the tour in Spring 2009, multiple additional concerts were needed to meet the demand of his fans. The concertgoers experienced 2.5 hours of fun filled, incredible and enthusiastic live music. Everybody who saw it agreed it was "the best Maffay ever."
A new record was broken in October 2011: His album "Tabaluga und die Zeichen der Zeit" took the number 1 spot in the charts after only one week, making it Peter Maffay’s 15th number 1 album! No other German artist has achieved such an accomplishment, breaking his own record of 14 number one albums with 'Tattoos’ in 2010. The reception of his live concerts are sensational: Shortly after the start of the Tabaluga 2012 tour ticket presales additional shows were added to the schedule due to the high demand. The end of 2011 marks yet another amazing accomplishment for the talented artist: He made it into the German charts for the 1,000th time! That makes him the most successful “album chart artist” in Germany and beats great artists like Queen, Michael Jackson and Herbert Groenemeyer.
In addition to his music career Peter Maffay’s commitment to charity is also remarkable. He built a foundation for unprivileged, sick and traumatized children in Germany, Rumania and Mallorca. As part of the foundation, he opened a farm on the island of Mallorca to support these children and provide them with the opportunity to have a free two-week vacation.
