Fed Cup 2010

Germany vs. France, the thrilling tie in Frankfurt

News5FedCupThe German tennis ladies could not achieve their goal.  After a very intense tie against France, the German team lost the relegation match with 2:3.

The weekend was an emotional up and down; Andrea Petkovic was able to put the bad memories on her last Fed Cup match aside and won her first single on the number one spot with 6:3, 6:2 versus Pauline Parmentier.

The second match played Tatjana Malek for Germany against the top player of the French Team – Aravane Rezai (WTA 21). Although Malek could win the last three meetings, she lost her single with 6:2, 3:6, 0:6.

Day two started with the match of the two top players: Petkovic vs. Rezai.

Andrea Petkovic was able to beat Aravane Rezai with 6:1, 7:6 (7:2) after a very strong performance. At that point of time Germany was leading with 2:1.

Bild2FedCup2010In the following single match, Julia Görges, who replaced Tatjana Malek, was not able to handle the pressure. She lost to Pauline Parmentier with 6:7 (4:7), 4:6. “The disappointment is huge and I could feel the pressure”, Görges said.

The deciding double played Andrea Petkovic with Kristina Barrois against Julie Coin and Alize Cornet.  The German duo had to acknowledge the defeat with 3:6, 1:6 after just an hour.

“I believed that we could win this match until the very last point. Now I am feeling just empty”, Petkovic said.

The DTB-team was ultimately not able to compensate their missing top players Sabine Lisicki (ankle injury) and Anna-Lena Grönefeld (fatigue fracture in her foot).

“Despite the loss did the girl show a strong performance”, said the German team-captain Barbara Rittner, who led the team into the world group last year.

“The team will stay together, advance to the world group next year and will attack again in 2012”, she said.

The Welldone Agency again supported the organisation team with the preparation and realization of this top class event.
