Anna Netrebko is enchanting audiences around the globe while continuing to cultivate the respect and admiration of opera’s most devoted and demanding fans. Born in Krasnodar, Anna Netrebko received her vocal training at the St. Petersburg Conservatory. She won first prize in Moscow's National Glinka Competition at the age of 22. Since making her 1994 Kirov Opera debut as Susanna on "Le nozze di Figaro" in 1994, Anna Netrebko has appeared frequently at the Mariinsky Theatre in performances of nearly all her leading roles. Her incredibly fast career started after the appearance of the Mariinski-Theatre in San Francisco, which caught a lot of attention and received spectacular reviews. Since then Anna Netrebko received lots of engagements at the most famous Opera houses. Her debut at the Bavarian State Opera prompted one critic to write: "there is none lovelier, none who sings more excitingly, none more charming - there were cheers, madness, and cries of 'the new Callas.'" Anna Netrebko appears among others at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Vienna State Oper and Milan's Teatro alla Scala. Since 1998 she is periodically being acclaimed at the Salzburg Festival. In summer 2006, she joined Placido Domingo and Rolando Villazon for a legendary sold-out DEAG concert on the Waldbuehne in Berlin which was broadcasted live on TV and watched by over 100 Million fans all over the world.
Further confirming her status as “the reigning new diva of the early 21st century” in 2007 Anna Netrebko became the first opera singer ever to be named to the TIME 100 list – Time magazine’s list of the most influential people in the world.
